motherhood and milestones

motherhood is hard. there, I said it.

“IS MY CHILD GOING TO BE OK?”

There is a reason why I have not been updating Year 2 too often. It’s not really for the lack of things happening. It’s because we have noticed that our child has a lot of anxiety and is not yet speaking at the level that his peers are speaking. And being parents, wondering whether your child is “OK” can be terrifying. I avoid writing about it because I spend most of my waking moments worrying about it.

So begins our quest to find a part time nanny for my one year old. We did this by having my mom stay with us for a few months while we look for a nanny, but soon we discovered that this approach brought new challenges. For one, my mother must always offer her opinion on everything I do. Here are the posts leading up to Year 2, which contains posts about why I wanted to continue being my child’s primary caregiver and not put him in daycare or hire a nanny.

first year “I AM TOO SLEEP DEPRIVED TO BE LESS NEUROTIC.”

I blogged 122 entries relating to my baby’s first year and our transition into parenthood. I tried really hard to juggle motherhood and entrepreneurship, but just couldn’t do it to my satisfaction. I ended up taking the year to focus primarily on being a mom, and with whatever time I had left over, I did some business stuff. I also struggled with self identity, from entrepreneur & business woman to “mom”.

birth “BIRTH TO POSTPARTUM: FROM CLUELESS TO HORMONAL.”

There are 24 blog entries relating to my birth and postpartum experiences, and the early weeks of motherhood. We’ve had a bumpy start, as our baby developed an infection 2 days after he was born, and had to be readmitted to the hospital. Fortunately he recovered fully. Needless to say, I was hormonal and emotional during the postpartum weeks, and felt like I was completely clueless as a new mom.

pregnancy “WHERE IS THIS GLOW I KEEP HEARING ABOUT?”

I’ve blogged 86 entries describing my experiences with pregnancy, including a tough first trimester. I was extremely nauseous and confined to the bed or sofa because I felt too sick to do much of anything. My “first trimester” symptoms lasted 5 months! I also described some emotional highs and lows of pregnancy, and the realization that I was in the process of a major life transition.
