Card from the Future

10:21 am in Birth and Post Partum, Year 0 (newborn) to 1 by Mom at 38

I received this card over the weekend…

Dear Mommy,

I don’t know how to write yet and I’m too little to hold a pen, so I asked Daddy to write this for me.

I thought I’d take time out of my busy schedule of feeding, napping, and keeping you awake to tell you that I’m thankful to have you as my Mommy. I know that being a mommy is a difficult job, and a seemingly thankless one sometimes. So, here are some things I wanted to thank you for:

  • For carrying me for nine months in your tummy
  • For keeping me safe and sound as I grew inside
  • For putting your body through it all (Daddy says you’ll be “100%” soon!)
  • For giving up foods you liked when you were pregnant
  • For your discomfort and sleepless nights from hip pain
  • For loving me before you saw me
  • For going through the pain to give birth to me
  • For taking care of me when I was sick in the hospital
  • For feeding me when I’m hungry at any time, day or night
  • For holding me when I want you close
  • For changing and cleaning me when I’m wet or poopy
  • For playing with my legs and arms
  • For burping me when I have gas
  • For keeping me warm when I’m cold
  • For carrying me to put me to sleep
  • For paying constant attention to me
  • For calming me down when I fuss
  • For putting your work on hold to take care of me
  • For staying awake with me when I can’t sleep
  • For staying close to me so I can feel you near
  • For singing me ABBA songs
  • For taking me on walks
  • For talking to me (I talk back too, but you don’t understand me yet)
  • For your kissies and huggies
  • For your constant concern and care
  • For your patience, as I know it’s hard when you’re so tired

There’s so much more but I’m sleepy and need to nap before you feed me next. So, before I drift off to sleep again, I want you to know that you’re a wonderful mommy, and I’m so glad that you’re mine. I love you, Mommy.

Your son, “Baby J”

This card was actually from my husband, of course. I was so touched that I cried and cried.
